From the creators of the Webby Awards, the Anthem Awards honor the purpose and mission-driven work of people, companies, and organizations worldwide. GlobalGiving won a silver award in the “Humanitarian Action & Services — Partnership or Collaboration” category for their collaboration with the global tennis community, Tennis Plays for Peace.
“We’re grateful for this recognition as part of the third annual Anthem Awards,” said Victoria Vrana, CEO of GlobalGiving. “We’ve been honored to partner with the global tennis community and fans around the world to provide support and humanitarian aid for the people of Ukraine.”
The Tennis Plays for Peace collaboration was born in 2022, when Team USA Tennis was set to play Ukraine for the second time in the sport’s history. Then, Russia launched its full-scale invasion, and everything changed. The tennis community, including the Women’s Tennis Association, Association of Tennis Professionals, the four Grand Slams (Australian Open, Roland-Garros, Wimbledon, the US Open), and the International Tennis Federation, partnered with GlobalGiving to leverage the power of the tennis community to bring hope to Ukrainians facing ongoing suffering.
Tennis fans and athletes from across the world came together to fundraise more than $3 million for GlobalGiving’s Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund. Special exhibition matches with stars like Ukrainian player Elina Svitolina raised funds. Fans donated by scanning QR codes in the stadium. Tennis events hosted charity exhibition matches, donating proceeds from ticket sales and sponsorship money.
GlobalGiving continues to grant these funds to 150+ responding nonprofits addressing humanitarian needs in Ukraine and bordering areas.
“It has been a privilege to partner with the tennis community to make such a profound impact,” said Victoria Vrana, CEO of GlobalGiving
